We Don’t Want Any Crap in Our Wine… The Women behind the Bottle by Camilla Gjerde is a book detailing women in natural wine.
This fantastic book is the first of a kind, focusing solely on women producers of natural wine. It portraits nine badass women and explores what drives natural wine producers to do what they do, to go on, despite being outsiders, despite the hardships and the risks.
Wine writer Camilla Gjerde and photographer Cecilia Magnusson have met some of the female trailblazers on the natural wine scene, travelling by train and bike in once-obscure wine regions in Italy, France and Austria, to let you take part in these women’s unique stories.
Meet nine female winemakers from across Europe: , Alice Bouvot of , Stefanie and Susanne Renner of , Elena Pantaleoni of , Catherine Hannoun of , Francesca and Margherita Padovani of Fonterenza and Jutta Ambrositsch.
Among them an ex-graphic designer turned winemaker in the middle of the Austrian capital; the sisters in Burgenland who told their father that they had a plan and that he had to back off; the winemaker in the Jura who trusts only herself and her feelings without regard to what others may think; a steward of nature in Sicily, driven by one thing – to leave a legacy for future generations.
While women are still outnumbered by men, even among natural winegrowers, more women are entering the wine stage now as winemakers and winery owners. Who are some of the badass women who make natural wine in the heart of Europe? Why have they chosen to do what they do? What are their passions and challenges?
