The kit includes both the follower and spring. The spring is stiffer for more positive feeding, the follower positions the round at a better angle for feeding and also provides a metal contact point for the slide stop.

well I'm looking at just the followers at $6.95 vs the upgrade kit at $8.95 because I really think the issue I had when I went shooting with Red was just My followers getting pushed out of alignment, I didn't have lock issues but I did have nose down issues keeping slide from going to full battery. This is with a Shooting Star 8rd and the Springfield 7rd, more predominant in the Star 8 though.
