Just a hypothetical here.If we could convince S&W to do a production run of new 1006's what would be your educated guess as to MSRP and/or street price?

cost of new 1006?

Street price? Someone with a better knowledge of Smiths than me(almost anyone here) might be able to compare a model(revolver, whatever) made in 1990 that is still being made and estimate a relative value for a new 1006.I'm guessing MSRP about $1200 today.I know there is not enough demand but it sure would be nice.Maybe offer their 1911 in 10mm as an alternative?

With modern CNC machining, S&W could easily produce them and keep the MSRP around $900-$1000 depending on which models and yes they would sell. One thing I see in the firearms industry is too many middle men in the chain of sales, this drives up cost and hampers availability to prospective buyers. There are enough people willing to buy, should they make a run of the Stainless Steel 10xx series. I wish they would make a run of parts available as the lack of parts are of concern.
I would like to see a Hunting Model 10mm chambered special 6" or 7" model made as a kit containing, conversion barrels for 40S&W, 357Sig and 9x25Dillon, because these rounds will all work from the same magazines and platform. I am lucky enough to have two Bar-Sto conversion barrels for my 1006 5" chambered in 40S&W and 9x25Dillon.
However I bet they would sell more M&P's chambered 10mm, if they ever decided to produce a 10mm version. I think the M&P 10mm would sell very well after this economy straightens out!

I was lucky to get mine earlier this year for $700 in great shape(box w/insert,wax paper, etc.) I agree about the parts reissue mentioned earlier though. For now, I got the need for a DW RZ10.Gonna try to get me one for Christmas.

Maybe I'm being selfish since I already own a 1006 I really want S&W to make an M&P 10mm and a 1911 in 10mm. I think the M&P would be the biggest seller for them in 10mm. Like them or not I think the Glock 20 helped keep the 10mm alive. I love my M&P Pro 40 and I have written S&W asking for a 10mm M&P. I would even consider selling the Glock to own a M&P in 10mm.

Shouldn't be any more than a Sig Elite Stainless which run $1200.

The 1006 was only in production for 3 years, 1990-93 and the last MSRP was $769. Adjusted for inflation that would be $1244.65 today!

Then I got a good deal on mine. I thought it was expensive at the time, but I paid $535 for it in 1993 at an LGS.

I think the M&P platform offers a pretty easy re-entry into the 10mm world. Put it on the core platform and you have 5" barrel

They would sell. But production costs and S&W, hmmm......it could be done for $1000 a pop. The masses want light weight, us fans know what we want.
I paid $700 for a 1006 a few years ago. The problem are the magazines! They work fine, but no replacements available.

M&P 10mm, is that Mim & Plastic? No thanks, I'll just stay in the hunt for the 3rd Gen 10mm's
I found a nice 1006 at a local gun show with a parts kit that includes a new factory barrel and spring kit as well as firing pin and some other small bits for a grand and thought I got a good deal.
Then just yesterday I closed the deal on an even rarer 1026, originally produced for the Virginia State Police. Listed for $900 on Armslist and I was lucky enough to be searching for 3rd Gen Smiths when it posted. Two more there listed for $1500 so they may stay awhile.
