Go figure, when the illegal action doesn't fit the narrative, change the facts of the case to what does fit.

So it was an SKS?

Just as a note, we had kid here in E. TN shoot a cop and hold off a virtual Army of SWAT teams once.  You wouldn't believe the reports on what weapon.  SWAT was turned back saying the bullets were going through trees and it sounded FA.  The high school kid even used a scuba tank to stay in his parents house after tear gas was deployed.  It was a hell of a thing.    Turned out it was an SKS.  The crime was horrific.  Turned out he was a kid bulled in school so skipping school all the time.  The Deputy was shot ambush as he stepped out of his car.  Only checking on a truant kid, He was not expecting an attack at all. Hell of a guy so they say but then most of our LEOs in this area are.  I couldn't ask for better cops.  I ride motorcycles with a retired cop so getting to know more of them these days than ever before.  Anyway, the news reports went from "High Powered Sniper Rifle" to "High Powered Assault Rifle"  to an "An Arsenal"  and the whole time it was a SKS.  The SKS no matter what you call it is still a hell of weapon.

You are absolutely, correct.  The perfect weapon for someone who has no extra cash to spend for a SHTF scenario.  Saw piles of them on the dock in the RVN.

[Smart A$$ ON]

Just to be ABSOLUTELY clear...

if the shooter used a .177 daisy 880 bb rifle to "assault" someone the Daisy 880 becomes an "Assault Rifle"

Anything that's not truth is fake.  We've given them the "Stupid" pass for too long.  They use stupid to push their agenda.

If you have a fake diamond ring, is it real or is it fake? Does it make any difference? Should anyone care? I care.

That's not so. Everyone is clamoring for information right away, and it takes a while to sort things out. Just because the facts migt not have been correct does not mean it's fake. Fake means completely made up.

Pushing unvetted stories is dangerously irresponsible, no matter which side does it.  People are more interested in stirring the 'ideological pot', and truth is usually the first casualty.  When you know the byline is a total fiction, and publish it anyways, then it's 'fake news'.  Most of time, you'll never see a retraction from the purveyors of 'fake news', because they've already moved on to the next piece of 'yellow journalism'.

In the mind of a libtard, every rifle more modern than a musket...is an assault rifle.

Don't forget the shooter was a lefty, and he seemed to know his way around the gun.

You know, what bothers me more than the media calling it an assault rifle, is the media calling the shooter the GOP shooter. Even the Daily Caller article that's in the OP did the same thing. To any uninformed witless idiot, your typical liberal, it makes it sound like it was Republican doing the shooting.
The headline: "Media Spreads Fake News About GOP Shooters Weapon"
And the first paragraph of the article: "Reporting indicates the GOP baseball shooter used an SKS rifle to commit Wednesdays attack, and media outlets are already incorrectly labeling the gun an assault rifle."

Maybe I'm picking at nits here, but I'm calling it the way I see it.

Well yes "Fake' does mean completely made up.  That's exactly what they are doing when they define something before they know what it is, making shat up.  When its to fit an agenda, to reinstate a version of the Clinton AWB, its a downright lie.

The days when we could think ourselves of having some special knowledge on what is an assault rifle is long over.  Any idiot with a cell phone has "Google", the AR15 the most famous rifle in the world, and we in the gun world have been sending emails and letters to the editors since the 1990s.

I don't buy the ignorance BS anymore.  They're crooked progressive left wing butholes with an anti-gun agenda that after being told a 1,000 times keep repeating the same lies to forward their political agenda.  "Fake" is being nice.

The husband half of the husband and wife team that does Fox cable news at noon CST

said Thursday or Friday that the "7.62 round" used in the attempted assassination of republican lawmakers

"could easily take down an elephant."

I was really glad I was having a good day, because my television survived, and I responded with laughter.

The more I thought about it,though, the angrier I got.

I have never considered Fox an angelic center of truth in reporting, but I sure expected better than this from them.

People inside the news and television industry have been predicting that Fox will go South as the last bastion of news

that attempts to be more "fair and balanced" since the elder Murdoch died and his 2 liberal sons have taken over the empire.

We need to get Mark Levin and his group of Conservative Thinkers off of costly podcasts and onto a News Channel that is available to the masses.

Even though FOX is far from perfect, the recent Harvard study that looked at how the networks reported on Trump was pretty conclusive that Fox

was the ONLY news outlet that came close to balanced reporting. Their demise in that role would be a significant loss in the War on Truth, IMHO.

I have wrote to Rush a couple times, that he and his big buck buddies need to start or buy a news station like CNN or MSNBC and make it a real conservative station. Rush has been buying AM radio stations instead. Hope you guys will start to bring this up to Rush, Mark, Sean, everyone.
