Thanks. I will always have fond memories of this caliber from my 30-06 days.

If you have any concerns you want to discuss, please post them. I am always willing to learn from anyone.

Before I posted two days ago, there were 18 American 30 barrels on the True Sporting Arms website. Now there are 16. I'm thinking I might have sold a few.

Now, do I need a 16" American 30?  I already have the 18". Are these chambers the same or might they be different if made at different times?

I didn't post any groups shot with the 30 American since I could wiggle the barrel in relation to the receiver.

I bought a CHEAP handguard with a barrel nut that is very soft. The threads are coming off in the nut.

I am trying to return the handguard since it is not what I bought.

I replaced the nut with one I know to be good and will load some and shoot for groups.

In my limited experience, 7075 aluminum threads against 7075 aluminum threads are GTG.  Does anyone else find this to be true?

I don't know. Every HG I have is made out of 6061 from Hogue, Young and BTE.

I don't know if the barrel nut i have is even as good as 6061. Handguards are pretty low tech devices. Even Schedule 40 pipe will work fine.

Here is my 18" BHW 6x45 bull barrel upper.segrin.gif

I just loaded some American 30 rounds with a 125gr TNT and 28.5gr H335.

I will see how it groups tomorrow.

I also loaded the same powder and charge in my 6x6.8 with 55gr Dogtown bullets.

Isn't it surprising the same charge weight is mid range for both cartridges with widely different bullet weights?

No it's not unusual because of the huge expansion ratio difference.

Went shooting today at 100 yards.

The scope was already on the 6x6.8 and the first shot hit dead center. I thought about stopping right there.segrin.gif

I shot 13 6x6.8 and 11 American 30.

The 6x6.8 shot about 1 MOA.

I moved the scope to the American 30 and set the scope to my previous settings and missed the target twice shooting at the top right spot.

I then shot at the center and hit 1.5 MRAD high and 0.5MRAD right so I adjusted and shot a few at the top right again then adjusted a bit.

I then shot the last 6 American 30 at the bottom right. Looks OK to me.

I remembered later I changed the barrel nut to a non-crappy nut so the POI must have changed.

I'm liking the American 30 even more. Remember, get the best nuts you can and keep them in good shape.chuckle.gif

Here are my BHW/Columbia barrels as shot. Manual ejection was easy. These barrels must have the smoothest chambers.
