This is a 15 year old, 100% rye mashbill whiskey, aged in bourbon barrels and then finished for 6 months in Vermont-charred Estate Oak logged on the WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont. WhistlePig has bet on the Vermont Oak, which it claims has a tighter grain pattern that lends more flavor and depth to whiskey than Kentucky Oak. The difference might not be noticeable to most, but as WhistlePig transitions to a farm to bottle distillery we expect to see a lot more whiskey aged for a lot longer in the Vermont Oak barrel. Consider this a preview of what’s to come.
