The Cruà Aglianico del Vulture Superiore is produced in the Basilisco cellars, a company founded in the 1990s with the vision of producing only high-quality jewels, from the vineyard to the cellar. In 2011, Feudi San di Gregorio, an already existing company in the Vulture area, decided to implement a project to recover the ancient caves present in the area and the annexed parks, with the aim of making agricultural activity flourish, and this project culminated with the purchase of Basilisco. Splendid cellars in the tuff and vineyards in the most In keeping with the area’s most suitable terroirs, Basilisco combines a constant search for the highest quality with the timeless tradition of the Vulture region.
The Cru is one of Basilisco’s 3 crus, born following the project implemented by Feudi di San Gregorio, as the vineyard located in the Piano di Croce district was able to produce important results, thanks also to the Barile soil, particularly suited to the cultivation of Aglianico. The name comes from a distortion of the French pronunciation of Croce, a reference to the Burgundian tradition of crus, and the location of the vineyard is in Barile, where all the company’s crus are located. The vinification takes place in steel tanks for approximately 25 days, followed by a maturation period in used French oak barriques, first and second passage, for approximately 12 months. This fresh wine with sweet tannins undergoes a further 12-month refinement period in the bottle, where it acquires a particular complexity and completes its elegant structure.
