Campo Alle Comete Bolgheri Stupore owes its name to the area where the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Petit Verdon vineyards from which it is produced are planted. They fall within the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of the Bolgheri area. The wine’s designation, in fact, is DOC Bolgheri Rosso. This product represents the first production experience in Tuscany by the Irpinia-based Feudi di San Gregorio winery. Campo delle Comete, in fact, was purchased from the previous owner, the Guicciardini Strozzi family. The blend used to produce this wine recalls the tradition of classic Bolgheri, whose production regulations require the use of classic grape varieties. The production area is in the province of Livorno, where the proximity to the sea and the presence of metalliferous hills behind create the ideal microclimate for producing important red wines. Consequently, the composition of the soil on which the Campo alle Comete vineyards are located is a mix of Eocene sand, limestone, and clay. The temperature ranges of August and September favor a slow and regular ripening of the grapes. The handpicking of the grapes takes place with careful selection of the bunches. The vinification of the grape varieties that make up the blend takes place separately. The fermentation and maceration lasts approximately 3 weeks at a strictly controlled temperature. The maturation then continues in French oak barriques and tonneaux for 10 months. The various batches are then assembled and bottled. Campo Alle Comete Bolgheri Stupore is aged in glass for a minimum of 6 months before being released for sale.
